ORIOLES: Thursday was a busy day for The Orioles. Buck Showalter was named as the new manager of the team.  He’ll take over on Tuesday; interim manager Juan Samuel has been asked to stay with the team in his old job as 3rd base coach but he hasn’t decided yet.   Also Miguel Tejada was traded to The San Diego Padres which means Josh Bell will be coming back up from the Tides to play 3rd base.  The O’s capped off the day with a 6-5 win over The Kansas City Royals in the 11th inning. They look for another win tonight as they continue the series at Kauffman Stadium. Jake Arrieta gets the start for the O’s while Sean O’Sullivan is on the hill for The Royals. First pitch is at 8:10. NATIONALS: Wrapped up their series with Atlanta on Thursday afternoon with a 5-3 win over the Braves.  They will host The Phillies tonight. Meanwhile rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been placed on the 15 day DL with an inflamed shoulder.

 

BAYSOX:  Last night the Baysox were trailing New Britain 7-4 as they entered the bottom of the 9th and rallied for 4 runs to win the game 8-7. They will continue the weekend series this evening and heads up,1430 WNAV plans live coverage of Sunday’s game at 6 pm. Meanwhile on Thursday, The (AAA) Norfolk Tides did not get a good outing out of Chris Tillman last night giving up 5 runs and 7 hits in 4 and 1/3 innings in the 7-1 loss to The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.   In Single A action The Frederick Keys & Potomac game was postponed due to the weather while The Delmarva Shorebirds fell to the Lexington Legends, 4-1. The Aberdeen Iron Birds fell to The Brooklyn Cyclones, 4-2.   In Rookie-level action, The Bluefield Orioles lost to the Burlington Royals, 11-2 while The Gulf Coast League Orioles fell to The GCL Red Sox, 7-2.

 

RAVENS: The full-team will practice for the first time today in pads.

 

WNBA: The Mystics lost to The San Antonio Silver Stars, 79-75 last evening

 

BAYHAWKS: The Chesapeake Bayhawks play the final home game of the regular season against the Chicago Machine on Saturday evening at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.  It’s a must win situation if the team hopes to participate in The Major League Lacrosse Championship weekend held August 21-22 in Annapolis.
