André Viette is a horticulturist, author and lecturer. He earned his certificate of Biological Sciences at The State University of New York at Farmingdale, and is a graduate of The School of Floriculture of Cornell University.

He has developed André Viette Farm and Nursery in Fishersville, Virginia, which grows over 3,000 varieties of perennials for the sun and shade. The nursery has its own tissue culture (cloning) laboratory.

In New York he had one of the few private plant laboratories servicing the gardening public, doing plant identification and insect, disease, and nematode testing.

André presently teaches ten different gardening courses at Blue Ridge Community College. He has received the American Horticultural Society Award for Commercial-Individual Contribution to Horticulture.

The Headwaters Soils and Water District named him "Conservation Farmer of the Year". He has received the Regional Service Award from the American Hemerocallis Society.

In 1986 André was appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture of serve on the Advisory council of the United States National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Horticultural Society and the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. He has served as president of the National Perennial Plant Association.

In 1992, he received the "Distinguished Lecturer Award" from the American Horticultural Society at Ameriflora in Columbus, Ohio.
